Bridgette's Story

Last October I was normal. I had a new job, drove a mini van, two kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and my time was consumed with planning my husbands 40th birthday party and my eldest daughters 5th.

Then one day I didn't feel right, so I got an xray. That led to an MRI. That led up to "the call". I asked if the results could wait a day and was told they could not. I knew something was wrong, but what is was I was NOT prepared for.

The first time he said "oncology" I cried. I was told to check into the hospital for additional testing. After a week of poking and prodding and scan after scan I was told I have cancer. The day I saw the spot behind my eye is when I told the Doc that they can take anything they need to. I can live without an eye. I can live without breasts. All that mattered to me was I need to live.

In ten month's I've been hospitalized three times, had two biopsies, two broken bones, a complete hysterectomy, taken countless drugs, been poked by needles weekly, lost hair, lost my job, and had more doctor appointment than most people have in a lifetime.

I'm tired but I won't give up. I need to be here to get Marcy (age 5) off the bus and help with her homework. I need to read bedtime stories to Brooke (age 3). I'll do whatever I need to, so my children grow up with a mother.

Breast cancer is hard, it's painful, it's horrendous, but it's not stronger than me.

It's not stronger than a mother's love.

It will NOT be the end of my story.
